Crown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the government in matters affecting the executive government. The services provided include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, trials on indictment before juries and provides leadership to several Government networks.  Crown Law’s vision is to provide collaborative, indispensable, legal service.

Research and Library Services provides an authoritative, reliable and timely research and library service to legal and support staff.

The Library is responsible for managing the physical and online collections and providing the expertise of the best Law Librarians. We are seeking a proactive Research Librarian to join our dynamic team in the Wellington Office. This position of Research Librarian is permanent and full time.

The central focus of the Research Librarian role is:

  • Providing legal research;
  • Compiling legislative histories, literature reviews and media searches;
  • Publishing the online Library Bulletin;
  • Library intranet maintenance;
  • Delivering timely and targeted training of library resources.

You will have a demonstrable knowledge of New Zealand legal resources and have an understanding of government and parliamentary processes.

You will have a high level of initiative and excellent attention to detail and willing to go the extra mile to ensure success. Excellent time management, communication and problem solving skills are also essential.   You will excel at taking on the challenges of new tasks and learning as you go.

The ideal candidate will have a degree and a tertiary library qualification (or working towards one) and have experience providing research in a legal or client-centered environment.
